Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,
The holiday season has begun in earnest at Bergen County Special Services.
On December 3 we welcomed Holiday Express to the Bleshman School, as they treated our students, faculty, staff, and families to what has become an annual musical show. This wonderful volunteer organization, founded in 1993 by Tim McLoone, works year-round to deliver music, food, gifts, and human kindness to adults and children in need. The organization serves a constituency of more than 15,000 throughout the metropolitan tri-state area. Volunteers include 100 professional singers and musicians and more than 1,300 other children and adult volunteers who work tirelessly year-round to prepare and perform the private charity programs at specialized schools, psychiatric facilities, homeless shelters, and soup kitchens. We are very fortunate to call these people our friends and to be able to celebrate the holidays with them.
Students and staff throughout the district are busy preparing their holiday observances as well. It is a pleasure for those of us in Central Administration to visit our different school sites and participate in the various activities taking place. Whether we are attending the BELA Day Care holiday show or visiting our Career Crossroads students to sample their fresh-baked holiday cookies, the spirit of the season is evident everywhere we go.
On behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration of the Bergen County Special Services School District, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish our students and their families a joyful holiday and best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year.
Howard Lerner, Ed.D.
