Dear Parents/Guardians and Community Members,
Our annual Bergen County Special Education Workshops and Expo will be held this year on December 12 from 9:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. at the Brownstone School in Saddle Brook (inclement weather date: December 15). Our professional development workshops will include iPads for Educators; Transition Toolbox: Tips for Preparing Students with Disabilities for Life after High School; and Screening, Interventions, Accommodations, and Use of Technology for Students with Reading Disabilities and Dyslexia. To register for this event, please visit http://cape.bergen.org.
Students in our BCSS shared-time program, Career Crossroads, are engaged in a wide variety of vocational learning experiences that are both community- and project-based in the areas of Sales & Customer Service and Hospitality & Food Service. Structured Learning Experiences and Group Structured Learning Experiences at several area internship sites provide valuable work experience for our students. In the near future we plan to include programming in the area of Child Care Assistant. Career Crossroads is open to high school students in grades eleven, twelve, and twelve plus.
Students from the BCTS/Paramus Campus have been partnering with BCSS students from the Bleshman School in the Shaping Bergen initiative, which addresses the fitness and wellness needs of both student populations and of the communities in which they live. All students will benefit from the joint use of a soon-to-be installed, ADA compliant, eight station fitness circuit; revision of PE curriculum to include use of this new fitness equipment; and the delivery of community awareness activities. As a kick-off to their partnership, 32 BCTS students participated in Bleshman’s annual “Roll-A-Thon” this past April, a fitness event that raised over $1,800 to send needy students to summer camp. We are very excited about this initiative and look forward to future shared activities and events.
