Lending Library

The services of the Assistive Technology Department include the administration of a Lending Library of AT devices.  We maintain an inventory of over 250 items that are available for use within the district.  Staff can request to borrow an item for the purpose of determining its suitability for a particular student.  These devices are also used within our department as support for our AT evaluators who will often bring an array of items to try during an evaluation with an in- or out-of district student prior to making a recommendation.

The Lending Library also includes literacy and curriculum support in a variety of forms.  We have an extensive list from Don Johnston’s ‘Start-to-Finish’ series.  This series provides struggling readers with age-appropriate topics presented at two reading levels on three media formats:  paperback, Audio CD and Computer Books.  In addition, we hold the complete list of 13 titles from the Incite! Learning Series.  This series provides short films on topics directly tied to the Core Curriculum Standards.  Finally, we keep multiple copies of 17 titles from the Literacy Starter Series.  This series provides topics of interest for grades 3-12 with reading level grades PK-1.

Any item can be borrowed from the Lending Library for in-district use by completing an AT Services request form which can be found on the AT Service Request website.  Requests are generally filled on the same day they are received and delivered through inter-office mail.  Most items can be held for up to 30 days. In the last school year, 230 Literacy items and over 100 AT devices were borrowed from the Lending Library.   We hope to support a growing number of district teachers, as well as OT and PT staff, as more people become aware of the availability and usefulness of the Lending Library.
