Marsh AccessDuring the fall, Wood-Ridge participants will have had the opportunity to, "Go Green!" at the Meadowlands Environment Center. This experience will prove to be very exciting and fundamental for everyone. There we are given the opportunity to learn more on how we as individuals, can aide in reducing pollution through reusing and recycling.
The Meadowlands Environmental Center is a New Jersey Meadowlands Commission Facility operated by Ramapo College. The Adult Marsh Access Program seeks to engage adults with disabilities in the following:
- Exciting field based programs at the Meadowlands Environment Center
- Hands on experience to explore science
- Computer Lab to complement Learning experiences
- Accommodation and assistive technologies to enhance accessibility
- Opportunities for return visits
The expanded Marsh Access Program will, over the course of the three year grant administration, identify and test appropriate assistive technologies and programmatic approaches with a goal of engaging 5,000 adults from specific disability groups and give them the means to be life long learners. September through November adults participated in the first learning module; "What's in the Water", Part 1 through Part 3. Adults were involved with hands on exploration and learning at the waters edge. These experiences were complimented by classroom instruction and experiments. At the end of each session adults provided feedback in terms of learning accommodations, accessibility, content and overall interest.Trips will continue again in 2008.
