On Thursday, October 13, 2016 BCSS Superintendent Dr. Howard Lerner and BCSS Director of Instruction Ms. Tara Bohan participated in kick-off events at Holy Name Medical Center and Hackensack University Medical Center for Project Search. In partnership with the Bergen County Workforce Development Board, the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, the Arc of Bergen and Passaic, Holy Name Medical Center, HUMC, and New Jersey Friendship House, BCSS has been proud to collaborate on the initiation of a Project Search program in Bergen County. Joining in the event were Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco III, Freeholder Vice Chairwoman Tracy Zur, New Jersey DVR Acting Director Mr. Brian Fitzgibbons, and Bergen County Workforce Development Board Executive Director Tammy Molinelli.

NJQSAC Results - BCSS Designated a High Performing District by the Commissioner of Education

graduation capsOn August 31, The Careers through Technology (CTT) Adult Program graduated Chasen Brown and Jacob “Yasha” Kaminer in a ceremony at the New Bridges’ Atrium. Distinguished guests included Superintendent Dr. Howard Lerner, and Directors of Instruction Mitchell Badiner and Tara Bohan. Several members from the community, family and friends were in attendance to celebrate this special occasion.

During Chasen’s time at CTT, he developed an extensive knowledge of computer technology becoming proficient in the areas of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Additionally, Chasen mastered skills necessary in order to become self-reliant, independent in daily living activities, make informed decisions and advocate for himself. During his tenure at CTT, Chasen sought and gained employment at Hillcrest Gardens in Paramus developing appropriate job skills, interpersonal skills, independent travel, and structured techniques. Chasen also worked in the Adult Programs by entering and processing all district food orders in our vendor’s data base. Chasen will continue his employment at Hillcrest Gardens and will attend Bergen Community College pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Psychology.

Yasha additionally has become accomplished in the area of technology honing his skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. During his time at CTT, Yasha has also enjoyed working on several research assignments throughout the years presenting to the class and improving his own public speaking skills. Yasha gained employment with Bowen and Bowen Accounts and Auditors in Hackensack through the instruction and support of CTT staff and will continue in his capacity there. Additionally, Yasha is employed by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. Yasha will also be attending the Opportunity Center in Fair Law where he will explore his passion of the arts specially in the area of music.

The BCSS Adult Programs’ staff are proud of these two individuals, and congratulate them on completing all the requirements necessary to graduate from the CTT Program. We wish them well in their future endeavors.
