Green House

Scott Kallensee, Chartwells Director of Dining Services and Beth McCann, Chartwells Assistant Director of Dining Services presented Superintendent Howard Lerner, Director of Instruction Tara Bohan and the staff and students of New Bridges with a generous donation of raised beds and garden soil for our horticulture program. New Bridges students have been planting herbs and vegetables in the greenhouse and will soon fill the beds donated by Chartwells with summer vegetables. This week we harvested our first group of lettuce which was made into delicious salads for staff and students. Our school community is looking forward to expanding our crop making us a farm to table school!

KatherineMs. Kathy Chadwick started her career with BCSS in 1991 as a Workshop Teacher at the Russel G. Layden Vocational School in Rockleigh.  In 1998, she assumed the role of Teacher-in-Charge for the Vocational School and the Life Skills Program that was also housed at Rockleigh.

Ms. Chadwick transferred to the Hearing Continuum in 2000 as the Teacher-in -Charge and worked at Union Street School and the Midland Park Programs. Her responsibilities expanded over the years to include the Early Intervention at HIP in Midland Park, the Extended Year Program (EYP), facilitated the summer/winter concerts, and organized the annual HIP picnic. She attended regional meetings for Early Intervention and maintained the system, complete with files, record reviews and transition plans. Among many responsibilities too numerous to list, Ms. Chadwick was the primary communicator with maintenance to keep the Godwin building as nice as it is. In 2015, Ms. Chadwick drew out the ground plan for the new playground at Godwin with the collaboration with the preschool teachers. In recent years, Ms. Chadwick oversaw the preschool professional learning community and fulfills SGO duties in two classrooms at Godwin.

Ms. Chadwick has been a creative force in the Hearing Impaired programs. Staff have come to rely on her for coverage and assistance in many ways. Her support to staff with their classrooms and with their students will be missed enormously. We will miss her talents and great sense of humor.

The Bergen County Special Services School District and Board of Education would like to thank Ms. Chadwick for her many years of dedication and wish her a long, happy and healthy and enjoyable retirement.
