Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,

Welcome to School Year 2017-2018.

The beginning of each new school year is an exciting time for students, whether they are returning to familiar surroundings and fellow classmates, or entering a new school and anticipating new friendships and experiences. For families, it is a chance to establish relationships with other parents and their children’s teachers and to become actively involved in their child’s educational experience. Our programs are enhanced by the participation of family members in a variety of extracurricular activities. I urge parents and guardians to join in; those experiences are sure to become treasured memories from your child’s school years. I also encourage parents and education professionals to explore the many workshops and information sessions that are available through the CAPE Resource Center. You can visit their website at www.bergen.org.

For those of us in administration, and our schools’ faculty and staff, the beginning of a school year is a time to renew our commitment to the mission this district was founded on. We are committed to enabling our students to realize their highest potential, and to support them in becoming self-directed and contributing members of society. We strive to implement the latest innovative learning strategies and therapeutic supports to achieve those goals. Our network of partnerships with businesses throughout the greater Bergen County area affords us the ability to offer students invaluable job training and internship experiences as they explore career opportunities that appeal to them.

We take our responsibility to assist our students in growing both emotionally and socially through community-based learning experiences and by offering opportunities to engage in volunteer, educational, and social activities throughout the community. We strive to enable our students to learn in the least-restrictive educational environment, and place great emphasis on the development of independent living skills. Our talented faculty and staff are dedicated to providing the academic, behavioral, and therapeutic supports our students need to attain, and sometimes exceed, the goals they and their families have set.

I hope you enjoy these last few days of summer break and the Labor Day holiday. I look forward to visiting with students and teachers in September to experience the atmosphere of energy and enthusiasm that accompanies the beginning of the school year.

Sincerely,
