Gateway Padovano High School (GPHS), located on Main Street in Hackensack, is a departmentalized secondary alternative program that is based on National Reform models and School-To-Career initiatives. The program is designed to educate students with learning and behavioral disabilities with a need for improved coping and/or social skills. Students receive Individualized Education Plan (IEP)-driven and as-needed counseling. Character education is also incorporated into the schedule. The students typically can benefit from smaller classes and more individualized attention academically. Students benefit from hands-on and real life learning as well as community-based instruction. Through our partnerships with Hackensack Public Schools and Bergen County Technical Schools (BCTS), some GPHS students also participate in specific academic, elective, or vocational mainstream classes at Hackensack High School or one of the BCTS vocational campuses.
