SHIP (Secondary Hearing Impaired Program)
A Division of Bergen County Special Services School District at Midland Park High School
The SHIP program, located in Midland Park High School in Midland Park, New Jersey, educates hard of hearing and deaf students, ages 14 through 21, grades 7-12. SHIP is a unique program offering education for students who use listening and spoken language in a mainstream setting. The SHIP program offers small group, collaborative or consultative, and mainstream classes, all of which are driven by an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
INCLUSION IN A MAINSTREAM SETTING
The SHIP staff works as a team in consultation with the general education staff to ensure the success of the students. SHIP utilizes a Consultant Model where Teachers of the Deaf consult with the general education staff to ensure students are in an optimal listening environment and provide and ensure appropriate modifications in their mainstream classes. Teacher assistants are strategically placed in mainstream and resource classrooms to assist SHIP students for optimal success. These placement options are available with the support of CART and FM systems. SHIP follows the Midland Park High School general education curriculum and grading procedures. All SHIP students in the program are eligible to participate in school clubs and after-school sports.Read more: SHIP at Midland Park
